Question: I feel better in some ways now more than 10 days after taking my last cipro pill but now for what ever reason i am having a bit of anxiety. I got up Friday morning and felt jittery but i felt better by the afternoon and into the evening. But then i noticed very late at night that anxiety was creeping in and that I couldnt fall asleep. I had drunk 2 bottle of caffeinated tea that day(24 grams of caffeine per bottle so that may have hurt me some but shouldnt the caffeine have been gone after 8 hours and why would it affect me so late at night). I was up most of the night and even tylenol pm didnt really help. I think i slept maybe an hour and a half last night. Even as i have gotten better i still worried a lot about cipro coming back to get me with delayed effects and i think my nerves are a little shot. “I often have side effects from medicines, but have never experienced anything like Floxin. I took it for a severe sinus infection followed by pneumonia last winter. After three days of utter misery and a rash on my back, I started hallucinating. Are there other people who have had a bad reaction to this antibiotic? By the third day I not only felt listless, nervous and sick, but when I went to bed I couldn’t sleep and began having violent multi-colored hallucinations. ” After some checking we learned that this kind of antibiotic (a fluoroquinolone) could indeed cause “hallucinations, visual disturbances confusion, dizziness and seizures.” One month later we heard from another reader: “My heart went out to the woman who suffered hallucinations while taking the antibiotic Floxin. “After two nights of almost no sleep, accompanied by hallucinations, I asked my physician for something else. At first she was reluctant, but when she understood there was no way I’d take any more Floxin, she gave me a different prescription. I think Floxin is a frightening drug and I hope you will warn your readers that the side effects of Floxin may be more common than previously thought.” Not long after we heard about these problems we talked with the journalist Stephen Fried about his wife’s experience with Floxin. Data reported by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) indicate that approximately 11 percent of children aged 4 to 17 are diagnosed with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) in the United States. Ref: She told us, “I am a psychiatrist specialized in adult ADHD since 1995, and from the beginning, the sleep problems that most people with ADHD suffer from intrigued me. Most of them had a similar pattern of late sleep onset, and difficulty getting up in the morning, leading to fatigue during daytime and role impairment.”“Sleep duration was usually short due to school or work obligations in the morning. This sleep loss seemed to increase the severity of ADHD symptoms as well,” explained Prof. Kooij’s investigation has revealed several interesting facts about the presence of sleep disturbances in individuals diagnosed with ADHD, and many of those have led her to form her hypothesis. Kooij.“If you review the evidence, it looks more and more like ADHD and sleeplessness are two sides of the same physiological and mental coin,” explains Prof. She notes, in the first place, that the majority of people diagnosed with ADHD also exhibit a disturbed sleep pattern. The physiological aspects of sleep are also affected which, in turn, could lead to other, more severe health implications.“We don’t say that all ADHD problems are associated with these circadian patterns, but it looks increasingly likely that this is an important element,” she says. CI suggest the connection of sleep problems with ADHD is low dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA).
